What is the deal with Nick Seeler this year? He's 29, and has never been anything more than a AHL-callup-level journeyman prior to this year. But his numbers look surprisingly great? Like, clearly in the context of being a sheltered third-pairing defensive defenseman, but that's useful if he can actually be that. Has something real changed? Is it a mirage?
Why has Suzuki's EVO been so bad for the entirety of his career outside of the COVID season? I assume it's bad right now because he's playing tough minutes on a bad team, but before he had Danault soaking up those tough minutes and it was still bad. Is there something more to it than just bad teammates and tough competition, and do you think his bad even strength offence limits his ceiling as a player once he hits his prime?
I've been learning R with an eye towards getting involved in hockey analytics, what are the types of projects someone new to the field should be doing to learn how this type of analysis is done?
Do you think it’s possible to have a MLB statcast equivalent in the NHL. I feel it’s a missed opportunity for analytics like hardest shots/goals, fastest skater with and w/o puck. Could open a pot of doors for analysis, all star skills comp, end of year highlight compilations.
In the context of what he’s supposed to be, a middle pair defenseman, is Brandon Carlo good? Obviously just a black hole offensively. But is he a net positive defensively?
Are there any stats that measure how well a team takes away shooting lanes and/or disrupts shot attempts? When I watch Tampa or Carolina for example, it seems very difficult for attacking teams to get clean looks.
Do you think there’s an argument to be made that xG’s should be implemented into a final score of a game? Utilizing xG instead of actual goals would reward the team that truly deserved to win.
The penguins are in need of a 3rd line center so, who is on the block that could fill that role? And what do you think the trade looks like with a limited amount of cap space?
Why do you close your eyes every time we make love

Are there any players you think the Ducks would target this trade deadline?
Over/Under on Sorokin Shutouts this season?
Same question as before, but if the shot is blocked. Is it xG for the shooter and is it xGA for the goalie?
no. in part because shot locations are not tracked for blocked shots so it's impossible to integrate them into xG
If a player takes a point blank shot from a location where the xG is, like, 0.3, but he misses the net, what's the xG on that shot attempt? 0, or 0.3?
And for the goalie, is he now 0 GA on 0.3 xG, or is he 0 on 0?
0.3. missed shots are part of xG
0.3. goalie positioning plays a role in forcing missed shots
What’s your favourite movie?
Will the leafs make it past the first round?
flip a coin
In the context of what he’s supposed to be, a middle pair defenseman, is Brandon Carlo good? Obviously just a black hole offensively. But is he a net positive defensively?
he's very good defensively, especially this season
Do you play fantasy hockey? Do you dominate because of your prospect/player knowledge?
no i don't i always forget to set lineups so this year i finally gave up
Whats the ceiling of Stutzle?
idk like a 90-95 point player with good defence? seems right.
How did you start building models for hockey?
How likely will Karlsson win Norris?
seems pretty open and shut but when the stats boys pick fox it'll be a hell of a shit show
Are there any stats that measure how well a team takes away shooting lanes and/or disrupts shot attempts? When I watch Tampa or Carolina for example, it seems very difficult for attacking teams to get clean looks.
i mean, there's shot attempts against. but strictly speaking there's no way to measure contested shots other than manually doing it

haha no that would ruin the game in so many ways
How quickly will Jesse Puljujarvi become a serviceable top-6 forward after the Oilers sell him for pennies on the dollar?
that would be nice but i think Pulju is a classic middle six guy who just doesn't have the offensive skill to create goals on his own
The penguins are in need of a 3rd line center so, who is on the block that could fill that role? And what do you think the trade looks like with a limited amount of cap space?
i don't know, I was going to recommend Henrique this morning but Carter's NMC kind of means we're stuck with him
i eat rocks. Is there any boosk/vidoes you can recommend on probabilities/statistics to increase my baseline knowledge?
Do you come from a programming background ?
not even close
I guess I am more so curious about the software you use to build your models.
patrick uses python
Who would you favor in a playoff series between NJ and NYR right now?
NJ but let's see if the Rangers add a top six winger
