JFresh, Who would be best to talk to to amend the NHL point system currently in place. I know of no other leagues other than the NHL and it subsidiary teams that reward a loss with points! Quite simply a win should be a win and a loss a loss, there should be no points rewarded to the loser. Also unfair is the playoff format which is discriminate by design, and unfair by the way it is currently executed. Stanley Cup contenders not equal in talent do not make for a good show! The what should be real playoffs or best games often occur within the division. Teams may be eliminated that are far better than teams in a lesser division which remain. Whomever made the assumption that all divisions would be equal are wrong, they are not equal and will never be, so this in all fairness should be looked at. Here's what I would suggest for points accumulation. Two points for the WINNING team. Tie games go to overtime. Overtime would consist of 1- 5 minute period 5 on 5 followed by one 4 minute period 4 on 4 and if there is still no winner a 3 minute period 3 on 3, if necessary followed by a shootout. This way fans are happy as no game ends without a definitive winner, and it is fair. A loss in overtime would be the same as losing in regular time, No points...A loss is a loss. There are teams in the standings that wouldn't have even made it there if they hadn't received points for their losses, there are teams with more wins and less losses than a competing team that have more points based on losses occurred in overtime, which obviously affects their playoff schedule. So, a loss as a points win is ridiculous, and is not a real yardstick of the teams actual place in the standings or talent. I believe I understand the original theory and why the system has been implemented as it stands, Yet in my opinion it would be best to save the original concept for those in Kindergarten where all is equal and no one should be offended and change the venue to reflect a competitive sports market, where a win is rewarded and a loss just that!
Why are Guhle's offensive analytics (especially shot metrics) not jiving with the eye test and box score stats? He looks really skilled and he activates on the rush and in the offensive zone.
Who's left for the New York Ice Hockey islanders to acquire? No way they go all in on Horvat then just settle for Engvall, they need another needle mover
Or is that just wishful thinking since he came from the pens? Jk of course, small sample size, but I like what I saw of him so far, was at least playing hard on both sides of the ice
Should Caps try to stay at least somewhat relevant in the final years of Ovi era or just sell basically everyone (except Ovechkin, Bäckström, Wilson & Carlson) and start rebuilding?
I get why so many people wrote off the Bruins this year... and also why some thought they'd be a good team... but no one saw 'best regular season ever' coming. Are they lucky or were there indications in the numbers that this team could explode like they have?
I’m a recent econ/finance grad and was curious as to how you got into hockey statistics. It’s something I’ve always been interested in but just don’t know the kind of route I’d have to take. Also how you were able to gather all the data. Granted I’m not sure if you actually calculate the stats or if it’s someone else but just curious. Thanks
What are your thoughts on the Kadri Huberdeau Pelletier line rn? I’ve been watching them every night and they seem alright (not great by any means, but pretty solid).
The analytics on them after every game has them being terrible though, which is confusing.
Can we get an updated WAR on Justin Holl? I wanna know how shit he is, so I can be even more disappointed when the Leafs don’t trade him today
^i wana know how good he really is
If you’re the real Justin Holl, I’m sorry to hear that. I also once told Zach Hyman’s uncle we only display the good players jerseys at the ACC
I need Justin Holl’s player card
I need to know if he’s really as bad as people are claiming bc everyone wants to trade him and I don’t think Leafs should

What do you think the biggest obstacle getting in the way of elite level players taking data/analytics more seriously?
Is it just me or has Kevin Bahl played terrific hockey the last couple of games?
i'll have to take your word for it
Hi JFresh, i was wondering, why are every NHL players bad compared to King Jack Johnson ?
whelp. how many defensemen do the Pens have now?
Is there a reasonable chance the Flames turn it around next year? Or is it time for a slow and painful death for the next 5+ years?
Thoughts on the Ranger’s playoff chances? They’re getting pushed as one of the favorites, but the team seems so inconsistent.
Why are Guhle's offensive analytics (especially shot metrics) not jiving with the eye test and box score stats? He looks really skilled and he activates on the rush and in the offensive zone.
What advice would you give to someone who is toying with the idea of getting into sports analytics?
Who's left for the New York Ice Hockey islanders to acquire? No way they go all in on Horvat then just settle for Engvall, they need another needle mover
do it fart
Why do the Flyers suck so bad?
delusion
If you had to kiss one NHL player based on their analytics who would it be?
Who would you choose based off of the eye test?
Your prediction- Is scoring Vrana, Kapanen, and Blais for under 7 mil a 200 iq play or is it gonna come back to bite Armstrong in the ass?
kapanen was a flub. gotta get a pick back for taking on a contract like that. but i like that they're taking fliers on guys
Or is that just wishful thinking since he came from the pens? Jk of course, small sample size, but I like what I saw of him so far, was at least playing hard on both sides of the ice
Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food?
Give me 1 good reason I shouldn't hire a mercenary to take out Ron hextall

Do you think Pittsburgh could've or should've matched the offer for any of the big ticket items moved? (Meier, Chychrun, etc.)
would've been difficult but would've been nice for sure
Can we get some NHL 23 streams?

Biggest playoff Dark Horse and biggest upset?

Should Caps try to stay at least somewhat relevant in the final years of Ovi era or just sell basically everyone (except Ovechkin, Bäckström, Wilson & Carlson) and start rebuilding?
i like the idea of them strategically selling and adding younger players. the sandin trade was a good model
When will u update the rosters for NHL 23 for PS5? and how can I find that updated roster when you do?
i don't do PS5 rosters so whoever uploaded them would have to do them
Kris Letang player card so we can spam reply it to PensChroncile every time he complains about him?
let's just say that would probably backfire
Any chance you do mid season updates to the WAR roster builder in the future?
yeah it's just a really tricky thing to wrangle. will give it another go in the offseason prob
the (hockey) world's been going to hell in a hand basket ever since Rutherford traded Carl Hagelin, hasn't it?
JR did cause covid by making that panic trade i agree
Are the Devils done or do you think they will pull something off last minute to sure up their bottom six?
they will trade a 4th for curtis lazar
when its all said and done do you think brock nelson or evgeni malkin will be looked at as having had the better career
Uhhhhhhhhhh
Where does Charlie Coyle land analytically? I feel like he tends to disappear for long stretches of time and has only scored twice since Christmas
poorly
Have you seen a man eat his own head?
do you think Edmundson is much of an upgrade over Bogosian for the limited role that Hedmans partners are asked to do?
no
Should NJD add? Goalie? Depth D? Depth F? They have some cap space and are an injury away from disaster….. Non-rental options are out there
i think they should acquire curtis lazar for a 4th round pick
I see what you did there….
Bundled with….Demko? 😜
WHY DID THE PENS SEND DOC DOWN CMON
just a paper transaction he'll def come back
Where do you rank Mika Zibanejad among centers ?
he's a tough one. i think he's very good but a bit overrated probably
lower than brock nelson above dylan larkin
Caps are stuck w JC longish term. What do the analytics say about him and is he as much of a buoy as it appears?
still a very good offensive defenceman
I get why so many people wrote off the Bruins this year... and also why some thought they'd be a good team... but no one saw 'best regular season ever' coming. Are they lucky or were there indications in the numbers that this team could explode like they have?
they are "lucky" in that their finishing and esp goaltending has been huge but my model had em as the presidents trophy winners for a reason
Are there any centers who could do even a serviceable job for Boston at 1C in the coming years? I can’t think of anyone we’d trade for or sign
can't think of anyone off the dome
Which trade so far do you think you're would have thee hardest time replicating in Chel?
Which Penguins team would you take in a best of 7?
The current team
The 2015 team that lost to NYR
lol jesus that's a grim question. gimme the one that doesn't have rob scuderi and craig adams
Which two teams get into the Eastern WC spots?
Buffalo, Florida, NYI, Ottawa or Pittsburgh
feeling better about PIT but other than that who knows. i'll say PIT and OTT, why not

patrick bacon does the quant stuff i visualize and communicate. we both got into it bc of a lot of free time caused by the pandemic

glad that Pelletier is getting a shot, haven't watched them tho
Canes only getting guys with lowkey good analytics, so who is the next Analytical god coming to Raleigh to make their xGF% 75%?
i like the Elias Lindholm idea
Repost from Twitter: If the pens really are in their death spiral, what would it take for them to listen on offers for Sid?
Or do you think they will just let him play out in PGH even if the team is bad instead of accelerating a rebuild
no they can't trade him ever if he needs to go he can sign with colorado at the end of his deal or something
why do people think anderson is worth 5 whole draft classes or is that just mtl media propaganda
propaganda but also big fast hits playoffs is the classic combo
it's propaganda
Thoughts on Lundell’s progression this year?
underlyings look pretty much the same which tells me people got a lil ahead of themselves last year. still a useful player though and very young ofc
What are the Sens really missing now.
could use some bottom six depth
The playoffs
Are there head coach metrics? And how does dallas eakins hurt his team compared to other historically bad coaches
hockeyviz has a go at it
Is Pius Suter a good depth add for Sens?
yes
