Where do Detroit's 2008-2009ish forward (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hossa, etc) and defense groups (Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski, etc) each rank in the salary cap era (or even the modern era as a whole)?
1. xG is usually based off of unblocked shot attempts (including shots that miss the net)
2. Shotst that miss the net don't require the goalie to make a save
Why do we use saves above expectation to evaluate goalies instead of saves above expectation *on shots that hit the net*. Not sure it would make a difference, but it's been bugging me for a while.
It's because players missing the net can be directly impacted by goalie positioning. As far as I'm aware removing it does not have an impact on repeatability
his passing numbers seemed better than ever this year, so maybe he just deferred more and it didn't work out? overall though he's been pretty okay for the past few years
Kariya was my favourite player as a kid and I never actually watched him play. funny how that works out. from what I've heard Patrick Kane is the closest comparable, with Kariya having more speed
made the visualizations first, few months in decided to write some stuff and it turned out people wanted to read it. for now there isn't much of a plan, i just want to grow my audience as much as possible and put out good stuff
I'm biased but I think they're the best team in the division on paper. they self-destructed almost voluntarily last season and a full season of zucker and guentzel is exciting.

definitely top five of the cap era. couldn't fully break it down though

The example that made me think of this originally was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx5NIgAm5qY, but it makes sense that it doesn't have a significant impact.
Yooooo I've heard and read around but apparently jack Johnson is packing some serious heat below the belt buckle
no comment
Was Cam Atkinson's poor year in 2019-20 an aberration or a sign of thing's to come?
his passing numbers seemed better than ever this year, so maybe he just deferred more and it didn't work out? overall though he's been pretty okay for the past few years
Do you think Kariya would be a better player now than in the 90s/early 200s? Who do you think is the most comparable player to him now.
Kariya was my favourite player as a kid and I never actually watched him play. funny how that works out. from what I've heard Patrick Kane is the closest comparable, with Kariya having more speed
what's one stat that is the most reliable in predicting a player's future performance
Brent Burns: is he awesome or what.
Also, do you think his Norris win a few seasons back was deserved?
I wouldn't say anymore, especially defensively. He definitely had a good case for the Norris though
Who plays with Hall and Eichel?
Reinhart if they're smart, Olofsson if they're not

Is Jake muzzin a top 15 dman?
i wouldn't go that far but he's very good
how did you get into writing about hockey analytics and what are your plans going forward?
made the visualizations first, few months in decided to write some stuff and it turned out people wanted to read it. for now there isn't much of a plan, i just want to grow my audience as much as possible and put out good stuff
where would you rank the Wild’s D-core in the NHL?
Top five
Two Questions:
Who do you think is the best defensive forward in the league, other than Valeri Nichuskin?
and
Is there a way to calculate WAR?
1. Riley Nash is a good candidate, although if I was picking one guy I'd go with O'Reilly or Stone
2. as a formula? not unless you have access to the twins' computer. Dom L's game score can be calculated though
Who do you think will be the most valuable Avs defensemen next season? Makar Girard or Toews?
I'd like to say Toews but Makar is guaranteed the ice time and PP TOI. I'm really curious to see what happens to Toews' numbers in COL though
if mats zuccarello was a food would you eat it?
i couldn't afford it
Do you think Drew Shore makes any sort of impact in Carolina this year, even it is a bottom 6 grindy role?
Probably not, but he might be a player at least?
How do you think the Pens compare to the other teams in the Metro (mainly the Caps, Flyers, Canes, and Isles)?
I'm biased but I think they're the best team in the division on paper. they self-destructed almost voluntarily last season and a full season of zucker and guentzel is exciting.
Do you post on HFboards?
against my better judgement, yes occasionally
We know the Pens are your favourite team. What are some of your favourite players?
Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby are my favourite players, John Marino's getting in there too.
Who is your daddy and what does he do?
it's lou lamoriello and he makes fun of my spreadsheets
Who is the biggest surprise gonna be and why is it New Jersey
let's get wild and say Anaheim. Zegras wins the Calder, the D bounces back and Gibson crushes it again in a weak division. why not eh
